I wrote in my previous post on writing rituals the importance of music to my writing. It this post I shall go into a little more detail. My writing playlist varies in genre based on my mood for that day and what character is speaking to me the most. I often pull story ideas from song lyrics. A characters mood or the style of voice I use can change based on the song being played at that moment. When it comes to short stories I let these changes come and go organically but for my published novels I don’t leave that much up to chance. I carefully craft my playlist to reflect what I feel is the theme of my book. Overall I tend to gravitate towards Neo Soul, Pop, and R&B.
